I'm pretty new to chicken raising. This is Charlie. Charlie is a 5 week old Silver Laced Polish. How or when are you able to start telling if it is a male or female??
So I know this thread is a few months old now, but what was the final determination? Did you end up with a roo or a pullet?
I have an 8-9 week old that from day to day I change my mind over. Yesterday I thought roo, today she's my little baby girl... My Houdan was pretty easy with giant red waddles and crowing at 8 weeks, but my little Poley PoPo, keeps me guessing.
This is the best that I could get. Charlie isn't one to stay still. I just noticed some red on the waddles and was going to start freaking out thinking thos weren't there earlier, but they all just got done eating strawberries!!!!! Lol so the little red that you see is from that I double checked!!
It kinda resembles a boy with the way the crest is coming to shape but I wouldn't give up, there is a good chance it could still be a hen.
What shape are the neck feathers? Rounded, square or pointed?
They look to be rounded, suggesting hen but like I said I wouldn't give up because that crest is the most crazy thing on these birds, its so hard to tell.
I got some silkie (hard to sex) and cochin (easy to sex) and I got 2 boys, both with rounded neck feathers but with big combs, since you cant really comb sex polish I would say wait a few weeks until it develops more. Really adorable, I hope its a hen ^^
