I inherited a supper sweet, five day old Ameracana chick that has a slight deformity who won’t eat. I’m not sure what caused her to look the way she does or if that is contributing to her behavior, but she has been unable/uninterested in eating since I brought her home yesterday. (Supposedly she was eating yesterday morning at the shop she came from).
Peanut seems to have a back or hip issue that causes her to look a bit cartoonish. She has some balance issues because of it. I’m not sure if her shape is also causing gastrointestinal issues.
Not only has she not eaten on her own accord in the last 30 hours, she has not been drinking water on her own. I’ve been dipping her beak in an electrolyte probiotic solution, a watered down chick feed solution and her water to make sure she has something to keep her going. But that is not enough for her to survive long term.

She has not been pooping, but releasing white and clear liquid from her bum. This is causing her down around her butt to be wet and dirty which is cooling her down. I’ve been cleaning her and drying her as I can, but it’s proven to be a constant issue. She seems exhausted and also seems to be in pain when she tries to ‘poop’.

Does anyone have any idea what’s going on with my girl and have any suggestions for how to help her?
Here are a few photos of Peanut:

Is this the vent or the umbilicus?

Definitely looks deformed, short back and the foot.
If I had a chick that couldn't eat and drink on it's own by 5 days I would euthanize.

There might be a leg bone deformity that is preventing it from getting around normally. But it would be important to know if the vent opening is normal or not. The picture abovethat aart asked about—is it the vent or the umbilicus? Have you tried feeding some ground chick crumbles mixed with a lot of warm water, and some cooked egg? A few drops of Poultry Cell or NutriDrench daily would supply some vitamins.

Sadly, Little Peanut passed away in her sleep last night.

I don't believe that her physical mobility effected her ability to eat. She was eating, apparently, after the shop got her.

I think that her deformed little torso might have also caused some digestive issues/ messy butt issues. My working theory is that she either had something internally preventing her from thriving, or that she got a pasty butt, was cleaned and the cleaning process caused her to get an infection or get chilled to the point that her immune system was compromised.
I think she was already feeling a bit ill when I got her, so its hard to know the root cause.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I would love to know what causes chickens to have this type of deformity. Going back to get a replacement chick today, I saw that another one from the same hatchery, but a different bread, also had a bit of a stunted back end.
Guessing its an environmental issue?

That is her vent.
