Smashed Eggs

Today my chickens layed their first eggs . . .except they were so high up they all smashed and the chickens ate the yolks.

Any ideas about making sure they lay in the nesting boxes?

What do you mean "up high"? Do you mean they lay while still on the roosts? Did they lay on a shelf or the cover of the nesting boxes? Are they locked in a coop, have a coop and run, or do they free range? How many do you have and do you know how many laid an egg?

Often the first egg seems to come as a surprise but they usually figure out what is happening pretty soon. If you have fake eggs in the nests, they may figure it out by the second or third egg.
