Good morning everyone,

I'm a new chick mommy here. I'm a stay at home mom that currently home schools my 17 yr old daughter.
I've recently started with my first flock and things seem to be going very well. I started with 6 pullets from TSC and a co worker of my husbands gave us 7 hens and a beautiful roo. I went from 6 babies to a very full hen house, lol. I have been on here reading many things and learning a LOT, and figured it was time to introduce myself and become active. I'll be posting pics of my ladies and gentleman here in a bit because I need to know the breeds. The co worker told my husband that some were Dominique and I've since learned here that they are more than likely Barred Rock, so gonna get everyone a pic and see what I've got.

Off to clean the coop and get some pics, enjoy your coffee..

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

Hello Anita and
welcome-byc.gif

Yes, Barred Rock and Dominique have similar feather patterns. If you bought them at TSC, the are almost certainly Barred Rock, although I've seen some rare-ish/less common breeds pop up there from time to time so who knows!

G’Day from down under Anita Welcome & Congratulations!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
