Soft shells

When you get a soft shell is it still a egg that can be eatin? my girls are only 2weeks and it will be awhile but there so much to learn on BYC. Thank you Rick.

I put oyster shell out free choice and feed 22% gamebird so they self regulate their calcium needs and I rarely get any soft shelled eggs. When I do get one though I feed it to the dogs. I have more eggs then I need and don't want to take the risk that it's not sealed somewhere and bacteria was able to get in.
