Spring sods ok?

So it is April here and snow is just starting to melt. I would like to put a sod in with my 9 day old chicks. Does it need to be green grass or can I dry out a piece with the winter "straw" on it? So new at this! Thanks

I gave mine sod w dry grass..the important thing is to introduce the soil part to help them develop immunity to cocci....

I would trim or brush the long dried grass off it, since you don't want them eating that. If you dig a sod and put it in a warm place for a couple of days, it should immediately sprout some fresh green growth! In the mean time, brush the chaff off your first piece, put it upside down, and let them have at it.

They say the first 2 weeks are the most crucial to develop immunity, so give them some right away.....Good luck!!!

I did at about 1 week old, they found a worm in it. The show was awesome!!!
