Hello and greetings from Kentucky. As is usually the case so many of the prefab made coops are of poor quality construction. Try checking out the Coops forum section right here at BYC. It's often cheaper and of better quality to make one yourself or have one built.
Oh you will LOVE having chickens!!! With horses, cats and dogs, I thought I had everything figured out-NOT. I love the ease of having chickens. I personally think they are the least amount of trouble. We have to worry about predators, so everything is enclosed. Aviary netting for the top for hawks, buried chicken wire for foxes and an enclosed "run" to keep everything else out and the chickens in. It would be great to be able to free range it, but depending on your circumstance, that may not be possible. The only advice I can offer is that if you think you want 3 chickens-plan for 6. It's kind of addictive : ) -I started with 5 and am now up to 15 just to see the temperament and variety. It is easier to have too much space rather than have to add on later. The only other advise I can give is to enjoy this site. LOTS of helpful people and info abound! Have fun and post pics!!!
