strange feeling shells

the last 2 or 3 days we have gotten some eggs with shells that feel almost gritty, like chalk and they are dull looking, any ideas what might cause this?

I am unsure what causes this but I had one red sex link lay an egg like this everyday. I will give her credit though, it was large and the shell was hard to crack.

Sometimes when my chickens get too much calcium, they start getting some deposits on the egg. It has never been a problem, I just talk to them and explain that I put out the oyster shell on an need-use basis and if they can't control themselves, they will be regulated. They peck me in the face and go back to business but one of these days I'm going to get through ot them.
