I have been keeping chickens now for a year and a half, and came across something in the nest box yesterday that I have never seen before. I went to collect the eggs as I do every day, and found a broken egg in the box it had been laid with a very soft shell, but in amongst the yolk was a strange rubbery thing, it was a fair size about 3 or 4cm long by 2cm wide it was a pale yellow colour. I threw it on the floor because I did not know what it was and with that a chicken came and ran off with it. What is even stranger my friend next door also has chickens and came across some small pieces of the same thing in her nest box the same day. Could anyone tell us what this may be?

Probably just malformed egg material I'd think.

I've seen some of the oddest things with "oops" eggs...yolk and whites alone, sometimes with the membrane expelled separately (no shell), jello eggs with no shell, tissue paper eggs, eggs that had shells, but looked like alien eggs...lots of weird variety out there...lol.
