Hello, all!
I am returning to poultry breeding as a hobby after years away. I have purchased some Silver Laced Wyandotte Large Fowl chicks, and they are approaching one month old without any loss! However, I was always instructed to set eggs in February and hatch in March in order to give the chicks a head start in growth before extreme weather. My question is thus: with a slow growing breed like the Wyandotte, will I be able to select good pairs by February (Eight months of age)? Or will my flock have to be gradually moved to an earlier breeding season one generation at a time- i.e. Breed P1 in May, F1 in April, F2 in March, F3 in February. Cheers!
