string that cut into hens foot

Hi,
I just found one of our hens with a string wrapped around her toes on one foot. It must have been there a while because it was imbedded in pretty good. I was able to remove the string but the it cut into one of the toes pretty bad. I cleaned it and put antibiotic ointment on it, wrapped it and put her in a cage by herself. Is there anything else I can do to try to prevent infection?

Not really. You can give antibiotics if you see any signs though.

I had this happen twice, caught it before they lost any toes thankfully. I guess the string came from the bags and never got picked up.
