Sugar for energy?

I was going through my cupboards and found a bag of sugar that mice had gotten into.

Naturally it's no longer good for human consumption, but I wondered if I could give it to my chickens during the winter for extra energy? Since I don't feed them corn.

I would also find other uses for it. Empty calories aren't good for chickens either; if they need more calories, they will also need more of the minerals, vitamins, etc that come with their food.

It was fun looking up what wlse sugar can be used for: body scrub, exfoliate rough elbows or feet, degreaser for cleaning dishes or hands, grass stain treatment, feed cut flowers, deicer for the steps, lighter fluid substitute were some I saw.

Sugar races through the blood stream giving a boost of energy. Fine if you are going to race around and around the pen, otherwise it turns to fat. It isn't really a health food.
