What percent of day old hatchery chicks(your first batch, preferebly) survived?

This is to mainly convince my dad that not all chicks die, he thinks they all die the moment you get them

Ordered 17 Dominique chicks from Cackle Hatchery 07/21.

Chicks shipped 07/27.

Received 19 Dominique chicks 07/29.

All 19 are still thriving at 4 weeks of age.

That's 100% survival and we are 1st time chicken owners.

first batch was a long time ago.. but it was 100%..

very rarely do I lose a chick.. and I've never lost more than one in a shipment

when i order it's usually at least 25 chicks.. occasionally I'll place an order for 15... but that doesn't happen often

Out of 23 chicks we purchased this year, we only lost one, and that was because she had a crooked beak and couldn't eat properly.

Year One--12 day olds picked up from hatchery 100% survival
2 (3-4) days olds from feed store 100% survival
Year Two--8 shipped day olds from breeder 100% survival
8 day olds from hatchery (picked up) 100% survival
12 Cornish X (4-H market project) day old 100% survival...well, until 8 weeks:)
Year Three--15 Cornish X (4-H again)...day old 100% survival so far, we're at the halfway point, starting week 4...and it's been pretty hot for them...

We've had a few losses after they reached maturity, one fox mama, one freak accident, one eggbound (but she was bought when she was 6 months old), one was a year old, died from nasty tumor on her leg, and one disappeared--hawk? But overall, for beginners, I think we've done quite well. No reason you can't do the same as long as you do your homework and are ready to prove you are up to the task. Best of luck--it's well worth it:)
