Surviving Minnesota!

So cold out today I can't even let my horses outside. Bad idea to keep a desert breed of horses in Minnesota. Time to build those indoor pens downstairs in case I have to bring chickens indoors. Luckily all my chicks already live indoors until 8 weeks old and hopefully by then MN will warm up (LOL what backwards universe do i think I live in).

A cold one that is for sure...

Another frozen egg day(sigh)

I forgot, and I hope I am suppose to mention this..

IN addition to the son with the broken Shoulder, MnChickMom is in the hospital with kidney stones. I got a text from her husband a couple hours ago.

No luck at all over there for them...

That's what we brainstormed too Minnesota Nice....I think that's the ticket. Her FIL is an electrician (lucky duck) and I advised a thermostat and keep it 0-30 or there abouts. Especially avoiding the higher than 30. I think she should pull the darn bulb too. I don't know her coop. I have yet to go down and see it.

so I can just imagine that older gentleman that built it with so much pride sealing it so the old Winter weather doesn't blow in. She said she had to request vents to be put in. But I'm thinking it's not enough either. So I sent her some Sauna venting type diagrams. IDK...just to give her idea of air flows and placement and such.

In the mean time, she's going to get some game bird feed to mix in and treat with some Tunafish once a week. She sent a few photos and the blood feathers seem to be unravelling already. She was worried about a feather picker. But it seems they all have this molt going on --on the back of the neck. Feathers all over the coop floor. The one bird has thinned out but she's not too bad. Still plenty of coverage. At least she's got the regrowth happening already.

Such a qwerky thing to have those birds molting in the winter. I feel bad as that's such a poor thing to happen in middle of winter....with a first year chickeneer.

Ha!

Well I don't know about that. But I sure know BYC acts goofy sometimes. The editor was still full and didn't clear like I didn't submit it. So you click again and it says you've already submitted. IDK. I felt like Ivie there with my triple posts.

I just candled my eggs due to hatch next week,

I threw away 3 dozen clears.

I have the following still in the incubator:

6 dominiques from 2 different roosters, I am so happy about this.

13 Legbars should be mixed colors.

11 Toad eggs. The toads were real active when I shined the light in they moved like crazy,,Again Happy Me!

6 yokohamas! I am again happy about this I only had 8 Yokohama eggs set.

2 Cuckoo Marans. I also sorta dropped one of them on the floor, made a big splash! It was a clear though,,Whew..

only 1 SS this time.

Every PC egg was a clear. I had a dozen eggs. I think Ed has to be moved to another cage, He is just not doing his job. I never see Ed mount the hens, I think he is just too mellow to do his job unless the girls beg him too. I love Ed and his temperament. I just do not get enough good eggs from him.

None of the Polish were any good, but they have not been laying that long and I only had 4 in the incubator.

I will be putting more eggs in this evening I have about 6 dozen, I hope to get a dozen chicks from them.

Hi MnChickmom!

Hello all. I am home from hospital. Like ralphie said we had fine opportunity to visit St cloud hospital er twice in one week. Now that we met or deductible what elective procedure needs to be done this year. (Just kidding...stay far far away from those places.)

Thankfully, my husband got home from fargo last night otherwise we would've had ambulance ride too.

My stupid chickens keep dumping their waterer. Am a little limited as to placememt soon they will only get it out in the run. That will fix their fly by day attitudes.

I have been contemplating little tick controllers since last summer when I picked 80 plus ticks. How dumb are they really, would they survive on the back part of a 2 acre plot.
