Swollen Ankle, Leg Hot, Foot Swollen Turkey Poult

Hello all, I just checked on all my babies (yes at 1.45 am! LOL!) I have 2 baby turkey poults with swollen foot or leg, the leg is hot! And the knee looks red. NOW the entire leg looks as if it is turning dark red purple! What on earth!?! The birds are 5 days old.

I am wondering what I can do for it One is way worse than the other.

Can someone give me advice? Please help!

Hello! I did. See above now. I need to mention they are 5 days old.

The leg is turning red purple, its toenails are BLACK! This is the oddest occurrence I have ever experienced.

It looks like it may have caught its leg on something. You are getting the type of reaction that I have seen with older birds if they somehow manage to get their foot caught in or on something and then hang there struggling to get away. The leg and joint swells up and bruises and is painful for them to walk on.

Thanks what I thought....but 2 in a row? And died from it? One is already dead. And one looks like it may be next. So odd.

The little ones can't take much abuse. I have no idea who else may have access to your poults or what kinds of places they could get into but...

My daughter but she is incredibly gentle.

You know....to think of it. I had a metal chick feeder in there...and one got it's too stuck in it...however....the one that died...BOTH its legs turned purple well before it died. One foot was more swollen than the other.
