Terrible vet experience Ohio. Beware

I'm so sorry that you had a bad experience! I just had a bad experience with my vet (and sadly that was the last vet visit I am having with my dog anyways). The first issue was the flea pill. My dog gets the 3-month flea pill as needed. We had called to get the pill (they don't want to see you in person, which is new), and they refused to let us get the pill because he needed an 'annual wellbeing checkup'.

About a month later, with the dog now having a bad case of fleas, we go to the scheduled appointment. Their front doors are locked, and they have this barricade set up at the start of the walkway to the door with a sign to call to check in. They did allow me to come in (with mask on only) with my dog when they finally met me at a side door to come in, though nobody else was allowed in.

They muzzled my dog, which was due to him growling, which isn't the problem. The vet was rough with him, and I didn't like how she treated him. She didn't do a full exam and said so in the record. In the record, it said that his ears were good, but they are not because he keeps shaking his head. He has some other health problem, and the vet was supposed to do a wellness check-up, and she didn't see that or make note of that?

Anyways, after the very short visit of not doing a full exam like she was supposed to, the vet quickly left the room without saying a word about anything. The tech gave me the pill and told me that I could take my dog out now. She sounded and acted scared. My Mom was the one who was supposed to pay for the visit, and they wouldn't allow her to come in, but wait on the phone line instead. Eventually, they let my Mom in to pay, but because of the craziness of that vet, my Mom decided she couldn't do that vet anymore. She was planning on setting up an appointment for her cat, but because of the front doors locked and barricades, and the not letting pet owners in, she decided she's going to find a new vet and is on the lookout.
Places like that are going to loose business, and maybe that will cause them to close their door's permanently!

Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Just went to their homepage and found this:

"Dr. Nicole M. Headlee, DVM

Owner, Lead Veterinarian

Dr. Nicole M. Headlee received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University (War Eagle!) in 2015 and her Bachelor's of Science in Biology (with minors in Animal Science and Military Science) from Western Kentucky University in 2011. Prior to completing her degrees, she served over six years in the United States Army, including a deployment to Iraq...."

Maybe she has some issues suffering from PTSD or similar. Which, of course, would be no excuse for treating people the way you described.
That sane thought crossed my mind. But my husband is a Vietnam vet and he was in business where we dealt with clients. No way would he ever yray clients like that. and you dont yhreaten them either.

Wow. Thats crazy too! We were lucky to hsve our snall town vet for so long and would occasionally treat a chicken for me too if i had an injured one or whatever. But hes retired now. Thats wild theyre still making such a big deal about Covid.

Oh. My. Word. I am so sorry! Your roo is still okay, right? Honestly, if he's still fighting, I would not euthanize him. If he begins to go down hill, then I would consider, but if he's still happy and thriving, I wouldn't. Maybe give him a couple girls to keep him company :)

I can't believe that. I'd report the vet in a heart beat. I'm not sure how you handled the whole situation, but I know that vet definitely handled it horribly. If you had actually been rude to that vet tech (besides the panicked "save my pet!" rude), then I would understand the vet for getting so flustered. But it doesn't sound like you did. My word, again, so sorry that happened to you!
Thank you. No i was calm it was fine. I mean i figured it wouldnt be good news. Yes hes still ok and hoping for a miracle. Agreed hes way to vheerful to thonk about euthanizing yet

That's how it is at my veterinarian clinic now, or what used to be my vet for the past 20 years. They started that at the beginning of the pandemic, understandable, but it's still that way. They won't even let you in, you're supposed to sit in your car and talk to the vet on the phone. To heck with that, I've been shopping around for a new vet.

Unfortunately I've had quite a few not so great vet experiences too over the years and have run across some pretty kooky and/or nasty vets. Sadly, statistically, the veterinary profession has an extremely high rate mental health issues and suicide.

I know veterinarians have the highest shicide rate and yeah i get it. But whats she doing making me feel terrible and also terrifying my bird with all her screaming?

Plus i forgot to mentin that the tech told me I'd have to get a millileter scale to figure out the dosage. What? You mean thats not included in the initial exam fee? Oh, my.

Ive had a few lukewarm experiences with poultry vets. I mean they are still trying to figure out how chickens tick. And so they should be! Chickens were originally solely farm animals....not pets. No one tried to cure them until recently. We took our peacock to an excellent poultry vet once...i loved that lady. She tried so hard to save our bird and did most of the treatment for free just cu z she liked him. But otherwise she would b e insanely expensive
