You can calibrate the glass thermometer and use it as a guide. Put it into ice and it should read 32 degrees. That is, if it reads that low. Not sure what kind of glass thermometer you have. I have a metal therometer with a dial on top and it is calibrated and is accurate so I compare all of my other thermometers against it.
