What are some tough breeds of ducks that are relatively good layers? (Tough meaning good foragers, good candidates for free ranging, intelligent enough to evade aerial predators whenever possible, etc)

My Welsh Harlequin female is the best forager of my little flock - she doesn't want to go back in the pen even for mealworms! She was also the first to start laying, by about 2 weeks. Her patterned feathers help her to blend in very well too. We haven't had any aerial predators (knock on wood!) so I can't speak for that.

My runner ducks are very smart when free ranging.. they are still young - 6-7 weeks and they see everything in the sky .. they stick together and are quick to run for cover if there is a large bird in the sky.
Runners are in the books for laying average 200+ eggs per year.
And best for pest control / foraging
