My grandmother always had chickens so I've been around them but I am a first time accidental chick raiser. There are three hens. Big mama, little mama and the Witch w/a B. And one laid back rooster.
Long story short: Big mama and lil mama both laid eggs in same nest. Now I have a surprise one 6 day old chick eating, drinking, pecking great.
But today the Ms Witch started flapping, stepping on and pecking the chick really hard. Both Mamas tried to protect the chick and tried to intervene but weren't fast enough. Ms. Witch has often bullied lil mama at times but nothing bad and she we always gets the snacks first etc. Acts like Queen B or a "word that rhymes with Witch).
Finally the question, should I separate the Witch or hope that the two mamas can protect the chick.
By the way, the Rooster is a perfect gentleman around me and them and the chick He is
awesome.
