I have a hen who aspirated while receiving vitamins through a syringe (no needle) for the treatment of a deficiency. She is no longer vitamin deficient, but she wheezes and breathes with her beak open. I think she has developed pneumonia. I have Tylan 50 injectable.
-Where do I inject her? (I've heard many varying opinions and would like answers from people with experience)
-What guage needle should I use?
-How much does a silkie hen need? (I've read 1/4 cc but wanted to be sure)
-How many days and at what frequency should I inject the medicine?
(I've read twice a day for five days but, again, I want to be sure)
Thank you!

The correct dosage for Tylan 50 injectible is .2cc per pound 3 times daily(every 8 hours) it is easiest injected into the breast muscle but change location with each injection as it can cause deterioration of the muscle at injection sites.

Yes, .3 cc 3 times a day, alternating breast, and try for high on the breast then low the next time for some variation in location.
5 days

.2cc is 10mg of tylan. Each kilogram is 2.2lbs. So if you gave a 2.2lb bird .4cc of tylan, you are giving them a 20mg dose. The range is 10 to 40mg/kg (so 10to40mg per 2.2lbs) of weight.
