Viva Las Vegas!

Awww. Muckmuck. You are having such a time with your flock. I'm glad you're still trying. Did you lose everything? I could contact a few folks. Not sure what you're looking for. Holly31 breeds BCM's and Black Ameraucanas. Call me if you want phone numbers for other breeders in and around town.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I have a dozen chicks that just went outside last weekend and the first 3 of 27 in the incubator just pipped! I'm holding my breath though.

This is "Margo" or so we think... She/he wakes up crowing but it doesn't sound like a rooster just yet... I have to re home her/him if it is a rooster as my neighbors already told me "no" roosters :( this bird is the leader of my flock and even does head counts when returning to the coop in the evening. Anyone have experience with the golden laced whyondotte? Some green feathers are emerging from the tail and this is another reason I feel she might be a he.

I have 3 Red Orps boys that are close to 2 weeks old that I am giving away to I am hoping someone who really wants them or could maybe use them for a future breeding program. I hatched the eggs from a breeder in Ca. I also have a small fbcm boy same age but small that hatched from either a breeder in Ca or Oh. If your interested in them, please let me know.

I'm planning on moving to Las Vegas at the end of this year. Any recommendations on areas to look into living if I want to own chickens and peafowl?

Just depends. I have lived in Vegas for 10 years and found a perfect home for my roosters (I live downtown so we can only have urban coops with no boys) my roosters went to a home on the north/west side with very large yards and no HOA (home owner association). I personally like the area out towards the south point hotel/casino that neighborhood has a feed store with organic products and lots of room to roam. Good luck! And welcome to Vegas!! Keep those babies cool it's the Mohave! ;)

Howdy!

I am getting some chicks in this week and I was wondering about one thing. The chicks will be in the garage until they are ready to be moved to coop. My question is in regards to having a heat lamp. The temperature is going to be above 100 for the next 10 days or so and the residual heat in the garage should last throughout most of the night. Does anyone have any experience with raising chicks in the summer and what you did in regards to the heat lamp? Daytime heat shouldn't warrant the lamp but at night is my only concern, I don't want them to be too hot.

Thanks in advance!

Depending on the insulation in the garage. Your container should be big enough so that they can all move to the heat lamp to get warm and all move away from the heat lamp to cool off - I think I would turn it on at night.
