Thank you all for your kind responses and the picture chart. It makes me wish I could have checked everything. At least I know it wasn’t a contagious virus...that would be terribly hard to lose all of our hens. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond, I’m very grateful.

I think you did a good job for the first time. It doesn't necessarily get "easier" when you are examining one that was a pet, but each time you perform a necropsy you do gain confidence and will be able to check everything a little more closely. I hope it's a very long time before you ever have to do another one, but at least next time, you will know that you can do it.
