Today Jan and I adopted 11 Rhode Island Reds and 11 Barred Rocks. We ordered 10 Reds and 5 Rocks, but the Hatchery must have misunderstood. Also, they sent 11 of each not 10.
We weren't quite ready but Griffith Hatchery in Fulton, Missouri, (www.griffithhatchery.com) about 20 miles from us, had a few left over from last week. We were planning on getting 15 total in a couple weeks but they had these week old ones already started and past some of their critical days. We scrampled today to get the nursery set up, disinfected everything and went and picked up the brood. The hatchery folks dropped them off at Borne Feed here in Columbia. They are all very perky. We have had them about 4 hours now ad they have not stopped eating. Do the eat all the time?
Here are a couple photos.
Anyway, I better get started on the coop.
