Hello everyone,

The other day I noticed that one of my this years pullets(3 months old) was alone and somewhat lethargic, didn’t make much out of it but then at night she crawled into the bushy area alone instead of going to the coop. I caught her and inspected. Found this weird development on her neck, almost feels like its going into her throat? Is that possible? Its very uncomfortable for her as when I try to inspect with my finger, she starts flapping and screaming badly.

What could this be? Any ideas what to do about it?

Thank you so much all in advance!

Thank you all for helping out. I hatched 40 of them this spring and none of her brothers or sisters have this… Her development doesnt look like a crator, more of a stick type of development. Is that the same thing?

You can clean it and apply Betadine, and then watch it, but it could be a tumor. That is a common location for skin cancers. Let us know if it grows larger, or if it gets smaller.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your knowledge and always helping people here… I will try, she is one of the cutest ones, maybe she is the lucky one.

Ok, so i tried catching her and the thing that was on her neck came undone. It looks like it has some feathers growing, and some puss on ends?

The “plug” left a tiny hole that has something attached to it and it goes to her throat. Is that cancer?

Bravo for removing it! Judging from the waxy pus at the core, you've removed an abscess. A cancer would not have come off as easily, probably not at all, as cancer has roots much of the time.

Treat that crater with antibiotic ointment until it closes up. It was probably caused by a feather cyst.
