Hi! New here! Not actually new to this website, but new to posting comments. We love some of the topics discussed in this forum.
We started with 12 chicks almost three years ago. Due to the predators in our area we are down to 8 hens.
We have a nice variety of breeds in our flock:
1 Buff Orpington(had 2 to start),
2 Rhode Island Red,
1 Golden Comet(had 2 to start),
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte,
2 Ameraucana,
1 Black Sex-Link.
We also had 2 White Leghorns in the beginning, but they became prey..so sad, they were our favorites! They were such loud talkers and so friendly.
We love our girls so much. They all have great, and different, personalities. They are so talkative. We love how they have different clucks and purring sounds that they make..even the squawks are great! They are a lot of fun to watch, especially when they start flapping their wings and hopping to catch the bugs flying just above their heads. And we love how they squat before petting and picking them up. They're just plain fun!
We hope to have other farm animals some day...like horses, ducks, sheep and goats, as well as keep some bee hives for honey, and to help with pollination of our large garden, and berry bushes.
As a small family of 3, we love enjoying and exploring nature, and helping with nature conservation; to ensure its enjoyment and exploration for the present and future generations to come.
