Hello,
I'm new to this and I'm not sure at what temperatures, hot and cold, do chickens thrive in? My son and I are finishing up the coop and will be putting the chicks/chickens outside. I'm in Southern California and it's a pretty steady climate. Average evenings are 50 degrees, rarely in the 30's, but not often. Summers get warm, worst is 110 but average mid 90's.
Are chickens pretty hardy? At what temp would they need a heat source?

Chickens can handle cold better than heat, you will never need a heat source, here in new england this winter was very cold -20 and mine did just fine, it is more important that you provide shade and a good water source at all times. They were born with these amazing down coats that they can't take off.
