What did you do with your flock today?

Also rats.
Yeah, rats are on my radar to keep a close eye out. Pigs are around, but I am far less concerned about them than stray dogs, cats, mongoose, and rats. Not sure how I am going to deal with the bugs other than relying on Google, local farm stores, and the kindness of BYC/friends.

Digging a trench around the coop to hold a french drain. The girls are such good helpers! :frow

Sounds like you have a sweet setup. I would definitely prefer that. My friend gave me her brooder, as she is giving up having chickens so she can travel more. No more plastic totes. This brooder is engineered well, has clear sides so now the girls have gotten used to us and don't run everytime someone approaches. I have the lamp just sitting on top of the very thick hardware cloth on the top. The solid bottom is removable, so if wanted, we can just use the top on the grass or wherever, maybe even inside the coop with the big girls straight on the dirt floor.
That sounds like a great set up too. Someone on BYC had a post about brooding outside in our coop and I just had to try it. I has worked great for me for a couple years now.
