So I am getting really tired of the way the "store bought food" makes my chickens poop and frankly them smell. During the summer I've noticed a huge difference and I'm sure it's because they are free rangeing all day and getting what nature intended. However, if you can avoid blueberries...do it. Talk about a mess. 
So that being said I am ready to make my own but am unsure what it is exactly that they need. I have a small flock, 8 so far, so I think I can handle it. Many recipes I've found call for a lot of grains which seems odd. I would think they need plants, dirt (grit) bugs, seeds ect. Any suggestions?
