It stands for 'double factor'. With the barring gene, that means that the bird has the effect of a double dose of the gene. This is important to note because males can have either a single dose or a double dose, while females can only ever have a single dose of the gene at most due to it being a sexlinked gene. I believe they only put that on there to differentiate because they use the same image whether you input a single copy or a double copy of the gene, though. In reality, a single barred male is darker colored than a double barred male given the same base color beneath their barring.
