I have read (and seen firsthand) that pekins and runners don't seem to set eggs. What is a good breed of duck that can set and hatch its own eggs? Do rouens set?

Buffs
Welsh Harlequins
Muscovies

I am sure there are more, but these are the ones that leap to mind right away.

My buff was setting before the wind blew over the dog house she was sitting in... Then she went back at it, but so many eggs were cracked!

I threw them out thinking that they wouldn't continue to develop (since they were cracked and all) and a near-term duckling came out.

Now I'm trying to break her so she can fatten up. She needs to put on weight and wait a while before we can try again... Poor girl, probably very confused. :hmm;

Plus I'll be away, so it would have been bad anyway... -sigh-

Welsh harlequins, muscovies, and cayugas... Although I heqr runners go broody and are AWESOME moms...
