What sand should I use?

We are putting a wooden bace underneath the existing coop to lift it permanently. My parents said that we will try to do it without the pipe. If it stays wet then we will ad one under the coop.

I used paving sand for my run for 5 years with no issues. Just have to be sure you get the kind which does not contain crystalline silica. It's not quite as course as the paver base and I get it at Lowes in the garden area.

I also agree with Dobielover that you should try to identify why the area is so wet and address that first.

If sand cannot drain and does not get sun, it can become a disgusting mess.
How can I tell if the sand has crystalline silica?

I’m thinking of adding sand to my run too and just using pine in the coop for coziness for my duck and chickens.(well.not thinking. More like 100% determined) which of these would y’all suggest? I’m thinking maybe the one that says “gravel e” it’s a lot cheaper to do it by the truckload from a gravel place than to buy tons of bags from the store.

I bought crushed limestone sand, and I'll let you know how that works. It seems to hold a fair bit of moisture in it, and of course today it's raining all day. I'll probably try to find another option online but the local big box options are limited and I don't need 10 yards of sand from a dump truck, so for now we'll see how the crushed limestone all purpose sand works.

We did the sand but all the chickens are to scared to go on it.
This is the finished product (picture below.)

Sure, today they are all on the ramp and push each other off to get a better spot.
