I have a rooster that is the low man on the totem poll. The rest of the flock never let him snuggle with them at night so he stayed on the roosting poll opposed to the nesting boxes and now the tips of his toes are black and falling off

. He's really sweet and all, and I wanted to make him my only rooster in the future when I get my flock established but now I'm not sure. Poor baby! Do I just kill him to put him out of his misery or do I keep him because he can live a normal life without toenails?

As long as he doesn't get an infection he should survive and recover quite nicely. Treat the toes with Neosporin or betadine washes once a day.

Good luck.
