Got these from TSC back in early March, the label said Maran but they could be any kind. Does anyone know what kind? I’ve had BCM that didn’t have any white on them, these do so I was wondering what Maran breed they were. Thanks!

Stunning chick! Looks like an olive egger to me! Here are some pics of Maran x legbar chicks we hatched recently… they look quite similar? you can’t tell on the pics here but one has quite heavily feathered legs too…

How cool, I didn't know any Marans had white heads.

Found this interesting, this is from Wikipedia, tells where they originated and where the breed got its name:

The Marans, French: Poule de Marans, is a French breed of dual-purpose chicken, reared both for meat and for its dark brown eggs. It originated in or near the port town of Marans, in the département of Charente-Maritime, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-western France.

I have one each, Blue Copper and French Black Copper, and they do lay very dark, or "chocolate" eggs, so pretty! My blue lays a slightly less dark egg, with tiny dark chocolate speckles - or sprinkles, lol.

I’ve had BCM that didn’t have any white on them,
They can at hatch.. and the copper comes closer to the 6 week mark in girls but midnight majesty is probably my guess also. I see at least one that could be wheaten.. Clearly it's not cuckoo..

Link and quote from TSC..

"This assortment may include: Cuckoo Marans, French Black Copper Marans, French Cuckoo Marans, French Wheaten Marans, and Midnight Majesty Marans."
