Hi fellow backyard chicken keepers,
I've raised a few clutches of chicks and poults, but I've never seen one behave like this. It doesn't run around excitedly like the others when I enter the room, it just sits there. When I go to pick it up it doesn't scoot. When I encourage it to walk (or another chick bumps into it), it reluctantly takes a few slow steps and appears to tip over just a bit (balancing on a wing to not tip completely onto its side) before giving up and sitting down.
The feet don't seem to be curled (I've seen temperature related toe curling, and it doesn't have that), but are there other things with the legs / feet I should be looking for? It seems more off balance, not crippled, but I could be wrong.
