I have 5 white Chinese whites, two male 6 months old and already very randy. Three females. One male Chocolate Runner Duck and 5 females. I love this bunch.
I had an incident with a bobcat at 1 pm one day two months ago and had to beat him off with a shovel. I saved one of my females but lost my prize male. He was able to fight him off but the bites from the bobcat damaged his wind pipe and he died two days later. I have to keep them locked up unless I am shepherding them closely. I have two male geese that are the progeny of the male I lost, they fight sometimes but only hog the pond and females.

That had to be horrifying fighting a bobcat for your chickens! How brave too! I'd be scared to death and hope my border collie would take care of it.
predators are brutal.
