Good morning!
One of our chicks is a mystery breed. Her name is Pearl.
Pearl is about 10 weeks old.
Thanks for your expertise!

Where did you get him? There are a lot of white chicken breeds out there, it would help if you could give us a little background information.

Could you give a more frontal shot of that comb? It doesn't look like a single comb. I'm wording if it is pea or rose.

I supect he's a mix. Possibly Leghorn crossed with something that had a pea comb and bearding (EE, maybe) as he doesn't have a big beard but the wattles appear suppressed and the comb has that mixed look that you get from a large single crossed with a pea.

Hi there,
Thanks for replying. We bought her from a farmer who has a lot of chickens. She doesn’t know the breed either.
She has a single comb, and is smaller than the others. Here are some additional photos.

I hope he’s a she!

That's not a single comb, that's a funky pea comb. And with as red and developed as it is, I'm pretty sure you've got a cockerel. Might be an Easter Egger mix or a White Cornish mix.

Thank you. The chick is about 10 weeks. So we definitely have a he?
Unfortunately we cannot have roosters where we live.
How long should we wait to know for sure?
He doesn’t crow or show any aggression towards the other chickens.

Yes, it's a boy. Females don't have nearly that much comb color at that age. He's still young so not feeling the hormonal surge yet but he will in a few more weeks.

Pearl looks an awful lot like my Gertie (white leghorn).
Gertie at 10.5 weeks old.

Gertie at 17 weeks old, the day she laid her first egg!

Sorry I don't have better pics of Gertie, its hard to get a chicken to hold still for a pic! My neighbors all thought she was a Roo!
