For the good of the ducks or any other species basic knowlegde of their needs, behaviour etc. is necessary in order to care for them properly.

There is lots of irresponsible posts on this board encuraging keeping species just for "fun" and little or no responsibility, just to fulfill selfish motives of their "keepers".

The mass hysteria of making "pets" of all kind farm animals including domesticated poultry at any cost is also deplorable , and does not do any good for further species improvement, development and preservation.

The only domestic bird species suitable for "pets" are Serama chickens. They are naturally tame and most of them craves human attention, also cause of their size they are suitable for indoor keeping.

We got ducks because we have a pond, we wanted help with controlling insects and we wanted duck eggs. The ducks use the pond (sometimes), eat insects (sometimes), and lay eggs (delicious) every day. They also entertain use all day. Now that we have them we would never be without them.
