I've never had that happen and I live in the North East. I cover it with four or five inches of shavings.I was a big fan of Vinyl, now I am not. If you live in a cold climate, and clean in the winter, it can cause tears and rips in the vinyl. I am just sealing the floor now.
Last winter with the Cold (below zero for days at a time) cause havoc on my floor. I went away and the care taker has issues with the watering fount. Gallons ended up on the floor and cleaning the frozen mess caused the floor to rip. I was using 2-3 inches of shavings at the time, and always used a plastic snow shovel as to not dig in.I've never had that happen and I live in the North East.
