I have heard that giving oyster shells and eggshells to a chicken or duck will supply them with extra calcium. Can I do the same with other seashells? For example, if I went to the beach and harvested my own shells (mussels mostly) and crushed them up, would this work just as well as oyster or egg shell?

I have often wondered the same thing . . . I can only imagine that there might be something specific to oyster shell materials, and yet, I don't think so. But I don't have any studies to back me up, this is just guessing.

But Runners eat snails and their shells.

I'll do some more research. Unless I hear otherwise, I might just give it a shot. But I'll start out small just in case. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
