Great use of space.
Why did you change from sand?

Thanks for sharing your coop and ladies.

This wild sand was very dusty. Just too much for the birds and myself. Purchased play box sand is much less dirty and dusty. I needed a new medium and found that wood mulch is cleaner, actually easier to clean and warmer in the winter. Sand is quite cold, great for summer, not so much for winter. Sand is back breaking heavy, wood mulch chips are super light. :)

i love my roosters. I am sure I have too many right now, but we all have our favorites.

We even have a roo that when my Grandaughter visits, she fetches him from the coop, puts him in a chicken diaper and brings him in the house to watch power rangers. He falls right to sleep on her lap and she loves to play pet and hold him.

Can you imagine what the farmer thought the first time his neighbor brought a dog in the house?
I know people who still think that is silly.

As I was reading your description of the rooster being afraid but not showing it, I pictured Hulk Hogan walking into an elementary class room unannounced. Boy what might that poor teacher look like! You are right on a good rooster will be in front afraid or not. The one that hides behind his ladies will not protect them very well.

Great article, I enjoyed it

I have been given a roo that might become part of the bigger coop, but he fights with my fav roo and its like watching someone pick on your kid at the play ground :( I may have to let them choose who is in charge.

Great article
I love the pictures
The topic is one that seems to always need to be addressed.
I love my roosters too and have just recently but not for long had one at a time in the coop with 8 to 14 hens.

When they work together it is a sight. To watch one roo distract a predator while the other gets the hens to safety is a site to behold!

Roosters are usually more friendly imo because it is instinctual for them to make sure whatever comes near their ladies is not a threat!

This is a good over all how to for beginners, I think it is a little opinion based which is fine

I used pellets in the beginning because there was less waste. Now I use the pellets in fermented feed for my layers.

lots of fun facts.
Rubbing color off an egg can be done if you add white vinegar to the wash water. I have done this on overly dirty eggs.
