Daily Chicken Routine

Hello, happy chicken farmers! In this article, you will find helpful info for a day-to-day routine keeping your chickens healthy, safe, and satisfied! Without further ado, let's begin.

Morning Routine:
The morning routine starts whenever you are ready for the day, but I recommend making it from around 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Once you are ready to head down, don't forget an egg basket. First things first, open up the door to the run. If you don't have a run, that's okay, I recommend getting one, however. Let the chickens flood out of the door into the outside while you check the food and water. For the food, I use a bucket. The link is in the notes section. It is large and white with a screw-on lid. It sits right by my chicken coop so that I may easily access the food. If needed, add some more food to the feeder and check their water. If it is empty, fill it up. Lastly, check for eggs in the nesting boxes. It is still early enough that possibly not all hens have laid by that time. Latch-up and you are done with the morning routine!

Noon Routine:
The noon routine is quick and easy. Simply grab your basket one last time and head to the coop! This routine is optional, but if you have an extra five minutes to spare, this will keep everything easy. First, check to make sure your chickens are doing good in the run and, or coop. The food and water should still be full, but if not simply refill both. If handy, spread some scratch or treats in the run area. I recommend doing this every other day, or every two days. Grab some eggs if there are any. You're done!

Afternoon/Evening Routine:
The afternoon/evening routine is the last one. Go down to your coop and move the chickens out of the run, and into the main coop area. If the sun is already down they might already be in the coop. Close up the door to the run and double-check the latch. Make sure no predators can get inside the coop. Next, double-check the other latches. Lastly, if needed turn on the heat lamp. Once everything is locked up and ready for the night, you can be done with the chickens and get yourself ready for the night as well!

Notes:
Don't over-stress taking care of your chickens. They will be fine! But I hope this routine will come in handy for many of you. The bucket that I use for my chicken food is from chewy. Here is the link, https://www.chewy.com/gamma2-vittle...lRAKRuuvxp8TK-4mMTS2xd8XzLuza9BxoCMb8QAvD_BwE
Why is a routine handy? Chickens are actually smart enough to know a routine. And if their routine changes they can get super stressed, and bored because of stress. It's very important to keep a good, healthy routine. Hope this all helps, and that you all have an amazing day!

Good article outlining chicken care, but it’s important to note that chickens do not throw up. They might regurgitate food/water if their crop is too full or if the crop is manipulated enough, but they don’t throw up.
TY so much for an easy to read well written article. It's perfect for me because I know nothing (at least, not in practice). I have a fairly set routine so maybe my chickens will adapt to it. And me to them, when nec!

Of course! Glad you enjoyed it.
Very common sense routine to follow for daily chores. I would add glancing over the flock to note general activity level noting any atypical behavior that may indicate an emerging problem. Sift feces from poop boards (if used) and/or stir the coop bedding. If using scratch you can toss a handful in the bedding and let the chickens stir it up for you.
Please note the following: Chickens do not vomit.

Chickens actually do vomit. As mine did when it was under stress. I am the one who wrote the article and knows the info. Thank you for your thoughts though!

Chickens are incapable of vomiting. Sometimes food can come out from the crop but it is not vomiting in any way. Check your facts next time.
