Heavy breathing! Please help!

My americaner hen is breathing very heavily, im not sure what is happening. Please help me!

What do you mean by breathing heavy? Is she panting like she is hot or is she struggling to breath (not enough oxygen)?

She sounds more like struggleing to get air, but i cannot even pick her up or she starts freaking out

Could she be egg bound? Or possibly sick?

Stressing her out will make the breathing worse. If you are trying to get her or pick her up and she's freaking out, then leave her be for a while and let her calm down.

When did you notice her doing this?
Did she start doing this when you tried to pick her up after she was eating or drinking?
Can you take her to a vet?


Keep her in calm quiet place and let her rest. She may be experiencing stridor or has aspirated some water/food.

Keep watch on her to see if she improves in a little while. If she doesn't consider taking her to a vet.

She also has a very hard crop, could that be something?
Also she started this about an hour ago.
