I bought 6 geese this spring from a young, and I mean young girl. She advertised on craigslist. She was very polite. She was about 10 years old. I am guessing. I called her to buy some Guineas. She sweet talked me into the geese.

She said they were white Embden geese. 4 are white. 1 is white with grey tips on the feathers, the other is grey.

I hate the geese! But they are fun to watch. They bully the turkey chicks. They bully the chickens. The Poop everywhere and all the time. They have eaten every shred of lettuce in the garden. They wander all over the farm.

I even stuck my hand in a wad of goose poop when crawling out from under my truck.

When did they start going into my sheds? They can turn a waterer into brackish slime in 4 minutes. They drank a gallon of milk in about 4 minutes!

I need to know what is wrong with me?

Why do I keep them around?

Will I like them better if they reside in my freezer?

Will my wife ever forgive me for the flowers and veggies of hers they have ruined?

Do they have to sit at the bottom of my steps and poop?

Does anyone know of any redeeming qualities they might have?

Did the little girl know the geese would do these things?

Did she know I would become attached to the lil b*****ds?

Thanks for listening as vent.....

LOL - you have just listed all the reasons I don't like water fowl. I've never had geese and most people who have them seem to love them but I do raise muscovy ducks and I think this year is the last year and I'll be butchering them all before winter. Some I've had a couple of years and have a modicum of fondness for but last year it was a nightmare trying to keep water to the chickens and turkeys, because the ducks would jump in the heated water bowl and splash it all out within minutes of me cleaning and filling it. I don't want to go through that again this winter so…..yeah. I think I'll be happier when MINE reside in the freezer.

Hahaha, I love mine. I have over 20 and we´re just going into breeding season! Yum!
I have fenced in all the plants, and my veg patch,
I keep refreshing the stinking water, the poop makes great compost, I remember reading a quote once from some Army officer, I think American, that said about the gunfire in a battle was like sh.t coming out of a goose´s backside! And it doesn´t stink like chicken and duck poop, either,
you´ll like them much better being bullies to your other birds than in the freezer,
Your wife will eventually forgive them, and I´m so pleased you´re enjoying them!

I feel like I'm in the same boat as you are duluthralphie! Are you keeping them?? I love my geese, they are 2 and 3 months old. I love them dearly but... all the things you said, I agree!

Bad Wolf, As the man of the house, I will inform you as to whether I am keeping the geese or not, as son as my wife tells me what I am doing.
Haha!

A helpful tip: Whenever your geese do anything undesirable, wave your index finger at them and say "NO!" in a firm voice. It won't stop them or even slow them down, but you'll have lots of fun following them around the premises.

It's probably the same finger I wave at mine !!! Let me just tell you what I've learned from doing this - absolutely nothing - apparently my geese don't 'speak' sign language !!!
