What to feed

my baby chic's are 1 week old.
When we put in mummy's food ( scraps of cooked potato etc) the chic's go mad for it..
is this ok,
what can they not eat ??

Do you have chick grit available/are they in an enclosure with enough natural grit materiel to pick up? As long as the chicks have access to appropriate grit, they can eat foods other than commercial chick feed. The grit is necessary for digestion - it is stored in the gizzard and used to grind up any food other than commercial feed. The reason it is not needed for commercial feed is that the feed is designed to be water soluble and digests without the grinding with grit in the gizzard.

yes their eating their grit but i have it in a feeder but shake some out every so often too..
