ok- thanks to all of your advice, i poked around my yard for scraps and found some materials (cedar boards... just thrown away into a swamp!) and have started building a chicken coop similar to the Garden Ark but with an additional detachable run for more space. i needed a more compact setup...

That’s so nice of you - but my bigger problem right now is a lack of time. I just started a new job and I have little kids, so I just don’t want to spend my down time building a coop for days... :) sounds like a better project for when the kids are older.

I think I could build another run so they had more space outdoors... but the coop house portion, I just can’t manage right now. It’s just more complex than what I am able to do without a lot of time and effort.

Duluth! Yeah, pre-made is not my first choice, but I don’t have the time to build it myself. I reached out via craigslist and made some carpenter phone calls, and everyone was just asking for more than what my budget allows.
