I haven't dusted the chickens either, just their coops. I've heard that it's not so great that Roosters eat layer feed which is meant for the hens, but I don't see how I could separate them from eating the layer. I'm just baffled. I can try and post pictures this weekend I won't be going home...
I just paid $13.59 each for 2 -50# bags of Dumor Layer Crumble & $12.49 for a 50# bag of Purina Scratch Grain at TSC. The price of feed is really starting to kill me, especially over the winter when the girls weren't laying very well. I sell eggs too to co-workers but I still don't sell...
I started using DE last summer and have noticed over the winter that 3 of my Roosters have white spots or discoloration on some of their tail feathers. Could this be from the DE or does anyone know why this would happen. I would say the spots are about as big around as a quarter in sections.
Thanks so much for the feedback. This has helped me narrow things down considerably. I think I may be going in the sex-link direction as well as New Hampshire Reds. I'm pretty sure my Aunt had given me a red sex-link with some other chickens she had to get rid of and she layed huge eggs, one...
Is there one particular chicken breed that lays the largest brown egg? Hubby is asking what I want for Christmas and I'm looking into ordering some chicks online to arrive in Spring. I'm considering ordering Jersey Black Giants, New Hampshire Reds, Rhode Island Reds, or Barred Rocks.
Thanks...
I just had to post this!
I sell eggs to people at work, one being our staff Attorney. Her 18 month old daughter will not eat any other eggs than mine. She tried giving her eggs from Denny's & McDonalds and even tested her with Store bought eggs last night. They cooked two of mine and two of...

Thanks so much for the information! Goodness, I'm thankful you broke things down the way you did.
I have a big mix of different variety of chickens...I guess you could say I couldn't make up my mind on a specific breed. I have found that my Cochins have become my favorites since they are such big sweet hearts, I have buff & 2 blue. My favorites are the Blue girls. I decided I wanted more...
I have the styrofoam hovabator with turner. I was concerned that the additional humidity may hurt the Cochin eggs but it's relief if it won't. I guess I'll try and figure out a way of putting some kind of divider in. Thanks so much for the idea. It's my fault about the different hatch dates...
I'm have a delima. I had bought 24 BO eggs and 8 Cochin eggs via ebay. The BO eggs came in just fine the Cochin eggs came a week later. I have all the eggs in the bator and the BO are due to hatch this Friday or weekend. The Cochin eggs are not due to hatch until the following weekend. All...
I hope you are right! They are Blue Cochin and White Crested Polish eggs I bought off ebay. This is my 3rd time trying to hatch and things have been looking really good since i bought a new thermometer/hygrometer. My 1st two hatches this spring/summer I got 1 then 2 out of 10 eggs both times...
My husband told me he set off some bug bombs in the house. When I asked him what he did with the eggs I have incubating, he said he put them in the bathroom and had placed a towel under the door crack. I'm concerned that the towel wouldnt' be enough to keep the fumes from coming into the...
