Quaaaack, Quaaaack, Quaaaack, all day long! Any advice?

New ducks were added to the flock back in April. At that time, we also added the fence to confine them to the "limited free range." But the quacking has been only for the last 3 months or so, steadily increasing. No new changes I can think of in that time.

Quaaaack, Quaaaack, Quaaaack, all day long! Any advice?

I have one female runner who, for the past few months, has been increasingly noisy. The neighbor is understandably getting annoyed (although they have their share of animal noises in their yard.) I have tried almost everything to get her to stop short of getting rid of her. - Water is fresh and...

Bad owner or just bad luck?

The neighbors have nothing over us in terms of deterrents. We have two dogs who certainly leave their scent around the yard, the neighbors have none. Our ducks are confined to an area with lots of shrubs and cover, whereas their chickens roam wherever they want. The only thing different I can...

Bad owner or just bad luck?

Hi, I'm having all kinds of guilt and sorrow because, in the 1.5 years as a duck owner, I've lost 4 ducks on 4 separate occasions. Our neighbors free range their 5 chickens and have never lost one. We free-ranged for the first year and lost 3 ducks. The first went missing in the middle of the...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi, fellow Wisconsinites! I have 5 pekin drakes looking for a new home. Anyone have room in their yard/heart/optional pond for them? I will deliver them wherever you are!

    Duck gangs

What do you know, you were right. We finished the pond for the ducks and I think it brought them together. No fighting. They are all usually in one happy swimming group now. :)

    Duck gangs

Thanks to both of you... it's helpful to know that I'm not doing anything wrong. When you say I have to keep the drake separated, does that mean indefinitely? Or just until "mating season" ends? When is that, exactly? Our drake acts like it's always mating season. :)

    Duck gangs

Hi, We have two generations of ducks. The first generation (4 ducks) hatched the second generation (10 ducks), but due to a cold snap, we brought the hatchlings inside and raised them in the brooder box, so the big ones didn't get to raise them as their own. Now that the second generation...

    Black Pekins?

Maybe! It's hard to tell if any stand more erect since they are only 36 hours old. I can certainly keep you all posted as they grow! I'd be thrilled but surprised if they were runner-Pekin mixes. The eggs they hatched from were huge and in the Pekin's nest and my runner girls are pretty small...

    Black Pekins?

Here's one of them! One of the others is even darker!

    Black Pekins?

My last round of duckling I had a Pekin with a few dark blotches which did turn white. But with these little guys, the black is very dark and organized in a somewhat symmetrical pattern. Not complaining! They ARE adorable but it's just so mysterious. I also wonder if wild ducks could have been...

    Black Pekins?

So we recently hatched eggs from our flock. We have one Pekin drake, one Pekin duck, and two fawn and white runner ducks. All three went broody at the same time. We watched 6 large (we thought they were Pekins) eggs hatch, but two of them have large patches of black! How can this be? Could they...

    One Duckling has "weak legs"

Sorry, I didn't respond in time. Yes, I fed my duck brewers yeast and that seemed to help. I had an adult duck later on with a niacin deficiency and feeding her lots of green peas seemed to help a bit until I got my order of brewers yeast. Hope this helps.
