We had a flock of Gold Laced Wyandottes and one Splash Laced Red Wyandotte. We incubated some of their eggs and got a bunch of Gold Laced, one Blue Laced Red and the one I would like to know what people would call her. Is this what is called a Black Laced Red? They are 23 weeks old in these...
Of the 6 blue laced red Wyandotte eggs I bought only one was fertile. Thankfully, that one egg produced a female. At first I thought my Wyandotte was a splash, but as she’s aged she has darkened in colour. I’m wondering if she is actually a Blue laced red Wyandotte. What are people’s thoughts?
I just hatched out a dozen gold laced Wyandotte chicks. I think one egg may have been mislabelled, because this little one definitely stands out as different. I’m thinking Polish, but have no experience with either wyandottes or or polish chicks. This is the little one at 5 days old. What do the...
Just noticed that the beak of my 14 week old Easter Egger is changing. Does anyone recognise what is happening to her? Why is it happening? What should I do about it? Her behaviour hasn’t changed and she is still eating normally.
I’m still a beginner, but that looks like a boy to me. I agree with @TheDawg. In my experience, only EE boys have, what I call, ‘rooster red’ on their shoulders. EE girls tend to have a more even pattern, whereas your EE’s pattern is rather patchy.
Most of the EEs I’ve seen in Australia (where I am) don’t seem to have the fluffy beards that most EEs seem to have in the US. My EE rooster looks similar to a Rhode Island Red, and many of the pullets I’ve hatched look similar to Blue Copper Marans or Black Copper Marans. About 1 in 6 have a...
Sunset is now 12.5 weeks old and is one of the prettiest hens I’ve hatched. Here’s what she looks like now.I’ve hatched. Thought you might like to see her now.
Experts, my new lot of Easter Eggers are now 7 weeks old. I’m getting better at telling boys from girls, but I’d love some expert feedback on their gender, please? I have some definite boys, some definite females and some that I thought were female but am not sure about now. What do you think...
What do people think, pullet or cockerel? I’m leaning towards pullet, but need more expert eyes than mine to weigh in, please? She is a 6.5 week old Easter Egger. I‘d appreciate any feedback. Thanks
Thank you very much for your replies. Apart from Chick 3, which is unanimously agreed to be a cockerel, the other chicks have really sweet and friendly personalities. So I’m particularly excited they are pullets, so I can add them to my flock.
This is our 4th batch of Easter Eggers and out of 23 chicks only 4 have been pullets. Is our bad luck continuing? At 6 weeks, it looks like we have 5 more cockerels. What do the experts think?
Chick 1
Chick 2
Chick 3
Chick 4
Chick 5
I’ve only incubated 3 batches of eggs, so I’m definitely not an expert. However, if she is only pipping then try not to worry too much (I know how hard that is!) From pipping to zipping it can take up to 20 hours. Most of mine started zipping about 10 to 12 hours after first pipping. If she is...
