Is the Barred Rock a cockerel?

Looks like a pullet to me. Purebred barred rock males should be double barred which typically makes them noticeably lighter than the pullets.

Do I have to clean my chicks?

That's probably pasty butt. You can search on the site for more info, but basically just clean it off with a warm wet cloth. It can be from keeping the chicks too warm. Check your temps and watch how the chicks behave. It's fairly common with hatchery or feed store chicks. If it is left too...

Who’s the daddy 😂Bielfelder/Light Brahma gender?

I could be mistaken, perhaps someone can correct me, but I believe Bielefelder over Light Brahma should produce red sex linked chicks. Red females and white males. If so, your chick is a pullet.

    First time processing

Perhaps I was unclear. We let our chickens free range a good bit. He was outside, then tried to get back in the coop by flying over the fence into the run, but the netting covers the top of the run so he landed on that and got a bit tangled.

    First time processing

I disagree slightly. We raised some of Moyer's chicks hatchery choice broilers, not cornish cross, and I had to rescue one who got stuck on top of the netting over the run. The fence around the run is 4'. A few caveats though: This was at maybe 5 weeks or so, and our chicks were raised by a...

Black & Blue Australorp, any difference?

My guess would be that in introducing the blue color they lost some egg laying capability and won't or haven't yet been able to breed the egg production back up.

    Is this a worm?

I found this in a bloody looking poop today. I picked it out and rinsed it to see it better. Is it a worm? What kind, and how do I treat for them? I would expect to treat the whole flock, probably late next week since we have a half dozen meat birds we're planning to process Wednesday.

    Fowltemptress' Poultry Presents: Board Games

In our family it is a bit less about getting heated, and more that it takes sooooooooooo long. We have the expansion to play with more people because we have a bunch of kids, and a few grandparents who live close. By the end, everyone just wants it to be over. We like wingspan with the...

    Is my baby a roo?😭

Looks like a pullet to me. For reference, I have attached a pic of my adult black sex link hen showing the same gold leakage in the breast.

    Bielefelder thread!!!!

Spatch is gorgeous. He's got a lot more color than my Biel roos. Where did you get him?

    Bielefelder thread!!!!

that head spot is concerning, but the eyeliner is very dark and distinct. I would cautiously say pullet. The males are generally lighter overall than the pullets. It's hard to see much in the picture you posted, but that is another clue you can consider. Autosexing breeds need to be bred...
