    Bald chicken butt

I think we may adjust our light timer as well...we've got a bad picking problem and never thought about the light playing a part. I appreciate the update.

    Chickens losing bottom feathers

Here is my run, both outermost with netting and smaller run with roof. This is where their food, water, and bather is located. Then some pictures of the coop with perches and nesting boxes. And a few random pictures of the run inside and some of my girls. Their butts look so bad and painful. I’m...

    Chickens losing bottom feathers

Sounds good. I neglected to mention before, they are laying fairly well...5-8 per day average. I'll put pics up here once I get them!

    Chickens losing bottom feathers

Thanks for your reply. I don't have any pictures to post at this time but will try to get some in a few days. We got them May 13, 2020 from a reputable hatchery. They eat layer pellets, scratch (as a treat after work) and crushed Oyster Shell as calcium supplement and as grit.

Our Sliver laced Wyandotte's are also losing feathers under their bottoms. Our concern is bullying. But your suggestion made me wonder if they are needing more greens. I had been giving them lettuce and cabbage during the week in the evenings. However, not on a regular basis. Help me...

    Chickens losing bottom feathers

We have been finding this with our 10 Wyandotte's as well. 5 out of 10 are bare. Exactly how this picture looks. I came across your thread while doing research for our hens. What steps did you take? What was the outcome? We treated as if we were fighting mites yet found no bugs at all. Now...

    Red Raw Areas Near Vent

Did this condition ever get resolved? Some of our 7m/o hens have recently developed this only around their vents. What did you do to resolve?

Companion Chickens...who would be good roommates?

Great insight! This is exactly what I was hoping for...seasoned "chickeniers" sharing successes and failures. That is how we all learn. Thank you!

Companion Chickens...who would be good roommates?

Hello! We have our 10 girls (Silver Laced Wyandottes) now out in their coop/run. We live in South Carolina and are concerned with the heat for them. We have measures in place i.e. mister, fan, shade, and will manage them the best we can. Planning for the future, we'd like to add some other...

    Cooked Rice?

I'm going to give my chicks a handful of cooked rice as their treat. I'll add some dill and mint to give it a little content benefit.

New to BYC and raising chickens

Hello from South Carolina! I'm a new chicken "farmer" and have 10 Silver Lace Wyandotte chicks (delivered from Murray McMurry Hatchery on May 13th). My husband and I are completing their coop and will re-house them from our watermelon box brooder to their coop in about two more weeks...they'll...
